Welcome to CMaster 2, the best way around to edit THINK code!
This demo version will work for around 24 hours. It will start displaying dialogs after an hour or so asking you to purchase the product. CMaster starts up fresh after each project opens. Since the CMaster demo does not save your preference changes, you must go into the preference dialogs under the CMaster menu everytime you open a project. You can modify the preferences, but they only "stick" for one project.
CMaster 2 costs $129.95, and comes with a 80 page manual and a quick reference card. You can order it by phone, FAX, or email. Students can purchase CMaster for $69.95—to get this price you MUST mail us a letter with your name and address, either a check or a MC/Visa number and expiration date, and photocopied proof of full-time student status.

INSTALLATION:
To install CMaster 2, first run the CMaster 2 Installer and install (or with it first remove the old CMaster 1 and then install CMaster 2), then launch the CMaster.sea file by double click on it. Save "CMaster" in the same folder as THINK C/THINK Project Manager. Copy the CMaster Prefs file and the CMaster Externals folder off this disk to the same folder (or to the Preferences folder.) CMaster Version 1 users should save a copy of their original preferences, then leave a copy in the same folder as THINK or the Preferences folder, since CMaster 2 will update it to the current preference version, 3.
Note that the CMaster 2 Installer makes some small patches to THINK C/THINK Project Manager. Tthese patches rarely to never change - once installed, you should never have to reinstall CMaster again. Every CMaster Installer (since version 1.0.5) will install the necessary resource, and remove all CMaster patches (that is, CMaster Installer 1.0.5 will even remove CMaster 2 installer patches).
If you are upgrading from CMaster 1 to CMaster 2, you should copy the resources from the CMaster Prefs file on the CMaster 2 diskette to your CMaster Prefs file at some point (particularly the TMPL resources, as you may want to later edit or look at the resources stored there.) To do this, first let THINK run with CMaster 2 and your old prefs. It will create a resource fork and copy some resources to it. After that happens, quit. Then user a resource editor to open the current CMaster Prefs file, and the one from the CMaster 2 disk. Copy all the resources found in the diskette prefs file to the one your hard disk.
When its over:
1) you ran the CMaster Installer on the version of THINK C/THINK Project Manager that you will be using.
2) you uncompressed, then saved the file "CMaster" to the same folder as THINK C/THINK Project Manager
3) you moved/copied a CMaster Prefs file, and a CMaster Externals folder, to either the same folder as CMaster, or to the Preference folder.
Now, you should be able to restart THINK and see CMaster 2 come alive!
PROBLEMS:
If you encounter a problem, first look in the Tech Support menu under Balloon help and see if its already known. Otherwise, see the Problem Resolution section there for more info. We left MacsBug symbols on in this version, so if you get a crash please look at the A6 stack trace for function names. If the stack contains CCOD or PROC resources, that's CMaster (if you see CODE resources, that's THINK). Send us the stack trace with your problem if at all possible.
UPDATES:
Jersey Scientific posts updaters to CompuServe, AppleLink, and the Internet. See the online Tech support for more info. However, you **MUST** save the UpdateUser application (provided on the diskette) somewhere on your hard disk (same folder as CMaster?) We post updaters which are difference files, that is, files containing the differences between say CMaster 2.0, CMaster 2.0.1, and CMaster 2.0.2, and a target release, say CMaster 2.0.3. When you download such a file (e.g., "cmaster2.0.x->2.0.5.upt.sit"), you must first decompress it with StuffIt(tm) or some decompresser that understands StuffIt archives). Then PLEASE READ THE readme file enclosed with the update. Save your current version of CMaster in a safe place, then, launch UpdateUser, open the enclosed .upt file, and apply it against your current version of CMaster.
If you haven't modifier CMaster in any way, UpdateUser will let you create a new version of CMaster. You can Cmd-I this version to see that it in fact is the version you expect. Make sure that you save or move this version of CMaster to the same folder as the old version was stored in, then relaunch THINK. You can access the About CMaster menu to see the version number as well.
HELP:
We spent an enormous amout of time opn Balloon Help, and our beta sites really liked it. Please try to look at it and the online help and tech support (under that balloon help menu) before calling or emailing us. This help is active in CMaster controlled text windows, and all CMaster 2 preference dialogs.
MANUAL ERRATA:
It seems we sent in the wrong file to the printer for the Key Functions section (page 25-27). The key modifiers are all wrong - look at the online help or the Quick Reference card to see the actual modifiers. The section accurately descibes the features, but the modfiers are incorrect.
By popular demand, Option-Control-Shift-Command as a project open will reset the preferences to the factory settings (stored in the data fork) and leave all resources in the resource fork alone.
If you upgraded THINK 6 to Symantec C++ For Macintosh, the folder hierarchy is still the THINK 6 one; therefore one of the new features, CMaster's Files menu with modifiers, may not work (this feature uses a STR# resource as a guide to let your open all text files within a defined directory structure.) First, you should read the manual or look at the Quick Reference Card, to see what these new options let you do. When you understand what they do, then you need to copy one of the STR# resources from your CMaster file to your CMaster Prefs file, and modify it. What you would do is copy the Version 6 STR# string, then renumber it in the prefs file to have the number for Version 7 (you probably should edit the string name so that it reflects this change.) If you don't do this, CMaster won't be able to find certain folders and will complain when you try to use certain modifier options.
FINAL:
We really think you'll like CMaster. If you have suggestions or corrections concerning the manual, please them to us via CompuServe or AppleLink, on the response cards, or via letter or FAX. We read every comment and log feature requests (and fix bugs/problems as soon as we can). Please keep in mind that CMaster lives in THINK's heap; that since we have no special arrangement with Symantec to get inside info on how THINK works, we have to do it by trial and error. If you get some unexplained behavior, please help us try to resolve it first before blasting something to the internet (if we aren't responsive, then that's another matter.)
While we have been in beta test for over 8 months, we're still getting minor bug reports from our testers, some which we can't duplicate. Given the terrific response to our upgrade offer (CMaster 1 to 2), we expect that we'll be both getting bug reports from you, and then uploading updaters for 2.0.2, etc over the remainder of 1994. PS: We originally shipped CMaster Preference files with Read-only Windows enabled, which has caused quite some confusion, so we turned it off as a default. THINK offers a a feature called "Projector-Aware", which if enabled signals THINK to look for a certain resource in a file's resource fork, and if found and set in the appropriate manner, tells THINK to disable editing for that file, hide the cursor, and show a small ICON in the lower left corner of the text window (you can read about it in the THINK manual). CMaster adds to that feature by allowing you to force files that appear outside your project window, and/or locked files, to appear to THINK as "Projector" modified files in a Read-Only mode. THINK does lots of funny things with these files (disables some option/command keys, etc) so we have included a Projector-aware file called read-only.c in the Goodies folder. If you enable the "Projector Aware" checkbox, this file will open in a read-only fashion (you can do it with CMaster disabled and get a feel for what THINK does in this mode so you don't blame us for the way things work).
PS: If your shop runs several copies of THINK at the same time, there are ways to get several versions of CMaster to run along with them-email us for details.
Extra Goodies:
We've included some shareware/freeware/demos with this release in the "Goodies" folder. The reason is that although many of our customers have access to the Internet, CompuServe, etc many do not - our intent is simply to make these more readily available.

The "ProFont S7" provides a nice replacement font for Monaco 9, and displays zero different from the letter 'O', etc.

Debugging Utilities, including EvenBetterBusError, which can really help you find those nasty references to location 0 - (it found one of our bugs in 1.0.1 after we'd started shipping) - and we heartily recommend it to all developers. Its particularly nice in that it catches BOTH reads and writes to location 0.

SaveATree is a real nice printing program that lets you use Control-L to move to the top of the next page, print two code pages per paper page, etc. Written by the same Michael Engber of Apple who also wrote the CDEFs used in CMaster.

We also included a CMaster External called OpenAllFiles (just source), that lets you open all of a project's TEXT files (you might want to remove the CAPSLOCK code...)
